ChatGPT: the internet’s evil baby or Jesus. It depends on who you ask. This is the open AI (artificial intelligence) software that pulls everything on the internet and distills it into whatever you want, like blog posts, essays, social posts, and other copy-heavy materials. There is also a sister software, Dall-E, that creates fake images.
There are lots of things you can do with ChatGPT. Meg Brunson of Just Social gave a terrific training on ChatGPT and how she uses it for content marketing. Here’s some of what I learned and how you can apply it to your small business.
Use this simple guide as you begin your own experience with ChatGPT.
Breakdown: You must understand what is needed for the program to give you the best output.
- Context (background info)
- Set a task (what you want it to do)
- Specificity (size, format, etc.)
- Iterations (different voices, add/remove details)
How to input/type your prompt:
- Give as much detail as you can.
- Give a persona (you are a marketing director)
- Use colons to help the AI categorize
- Topic: why software like X company’s screwdriver-counting AI works the best with US military-grade screwdrivers and will work through any type of weather, even 150-F temperatures
- Audience: US military generals who need screwdriver-counting software
- Goal: download one-sheet for sales and to help complete RFP
The task should be specific:
- Summarize this IKEA manual into a series of 10 tweets
- Argue the safest way to install vendor-approved software for the US military
- Translate this to conversational Portuguese
- Brainstorm 20 ideas about how to train your team on the following IKEA sofa manual
- Write an outline for a media pitch about the importance of understanding the IKEA manual
The parameters should be specific:
- Write under 250 words
- Use convincing and concise language
- Speak directly to the reader who will approve contracts
- Ask questions to transition between paragraphs
Regenerate an output and have it iterate a variety of content. I start with: “Using the last output(s), …..”:
- Explain the IKEA sofa manual like I’m a 4th grader
- Put this into a list (or a table)
- Write in the style of Ina Garten [public figure]
There are lots of other ways to help you outline marketing tactics or kick off a macro content with ChatGPT. This is just a start for you to try it out.
