What is print-on-demand, exactly?

Print-on-demand (POD) is a way to sell custom products - t-shirts, mugs, tote bags, phone cases without buying inventory, renting storage, or shipping anything yourself. You create the design, upload it to a platform, and when someone buys it, the platform prints it and ships it directly to them. You get a cut. You never touch the product.

No startup inventory. No minimum orders. No upfront cost to list your designs. You can start with a free account and a design you made on Canva.

1. You create a design

A phrase, a graphic, a pattern - anything. Canva works. You don't need to be a professional designer.

2. You upload it to a POD platform

TeePublic, SunFrog, Redbubble, Etsy x Printify, Merch by Amazon - they host your store, handle payments, and manage production.

3. Someone buys it

The platform prints and ships the order. You get a royalty deposited to your account. You did nothing extra.

4. you keep building

More designs = more chances to earn. It compounds quietly over time - even while you're doing other things.

Why It Works For People Like Us

It fits into your real life, when you have time for it.

NO COMMUTE

Everything happens online. Your store is open 24/7 whether you're working or not.Everything happens online. Your store is open 24/7 whether you're working or not.

YOU OWN WHAT YOU CREATE

Your designs are yours. You can list them on multiple platforms at the same time.

NO INVENTORY RISK

You're not buying boxes of shirts hoping they sell. Nothing is printed until someone pays for it.

This also means less waste, less unsold items that go into a landfill.

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE

The platform handles returns, shipping issues, and payment processing. You're not fielding DMs at midnight.

LOW STARTUP COST

Most platforms are free to join and free to list on. You can start with $0 out of pocket.

Note: Etsy charges upfront.

IT EARNS 24/7

Once a design is live, it can sell at any hour — during school pickup, during dinner, at 2am.

I've been doing this for 9 years.
Quietly. Organically.

MY STORY

I'm a digital marketing strategist by trade, but I opened my POD store back when my kid was a toddler. I was looking for something that could earn without taking over my life. I wasn't trying to build a brand. I just wanted designs out there, doing their thing while I did mine.

Nine years later, my store is still running. I've rarely promoted it on social media, and not on my main social accounts. I don't tell anyone because I want to run in it independent of my marketing work.

Every sale has been 99% organic - people finding my designs through search and buying because the design was right for them.

Everything I Know In One Place

I wrote this guide for people who are curious about POD but don't know where to start, and for people who started but aren't seeing results. It's practical, it's clear, and it's written for people with real lives and limited time.

FAQ

Do I need design experience?

No. Canva is free and beginner-friendly. The guide covers how to use it for POD specifically — sizing, file formats, the whole thing.

How long before I see my first sale?

It varies. Some people get a sale in their first week. Others take a few months. It depends on your niche, your designs, and how many you upload. The guide is honest about this.

Which platform do you recommend?

TeePublic is where I started and where I still earn. The guide covers why — and when it might make sense to branch out to others.

Is this only for people in LA?

Nope. POD works anywhere you have internet and a design software. I'm LA-based and I write from that lens, but the strategies work whether you're in Boyle Heights or Bakersfield.

You don't need a big budget. You need a system.

I built mine over 9 years, one design at a time.
